Tiny Forest
On April 27, 2025, a team of volunteers planted 67 native trees and shrubs in the Community Park on the Ridge. The side is approximately 200 sq. ft. The efforts were led by East Vincent's Environmental Advisory Council (EAC). This project was completed with the support of the East Vincent Township Board of Supervisors, EV Public Works and PA Master Naturalist program. The plantings were provided by Interfaith Power & Light. The tubes protect the plants from deer.
What is a tiny forest?
A tiny forest is a small, densely planted and diverse collection of native trees and shrub species. Dr. Akira Mikawaki, a Japanese ecologist and botanist, introduced this method in the 1970's. These pocket forest improve biodiversity, create a natural habitat, improve air quality as well as improve the land's water retention. The project shows how communities can lead the way in building climate resilience, reimagining their public spaces one pocket at a time.
