EAST VINCENT TOWNSHIP MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the East Vincent Township Board of Supervisors and all Township employees, boards, commissions and committees to act at all times efficiently, responsibly, creatively, and with integrity; to provide open, transparent and impartial governance for the common good; to preserve, protect and promote the Township’s rural character, agricultural heritage, and historical resources and significance; to be vigilant and responsible stewards of the Township’s landscapes, waterways and other natural and historical resources; to encourage and promote business development, real estate development, redevelopment and adaptive re-use that are compatible with the Township’s rural, agricultural and historical character and heritage and in a manner that is consistent with applicable ordinances, laws, rules and regulations; and to promote, protect and enhance the health, safety, well-being, and quality of life for all who live, work, play (including, but not limited, to building and maintaining parks and trails and encouraging diverse recreational activities to connect our residents to nature and the Township’s rural and historical heritage).

EAST VINCENT TOWNSHIP VISION STATEMENT

East Vincent Township embraces and cherishes its agricultural heritage, rural character, natural resources and historical resources and significance. Thus, we envision our community as a proactive leader in the (i) conservation and protection of open spaces, the Hopewell Big Woods, the French Creek and Stony Run Watersheds, and the Township’s other streams, wetlands and natural resources; (ii) restoration of native trees, plants, and vegetation; (iii) improvement of biodiversity; (iv) promotion and protection of agriculture; and (v.) preservation of its historical resources (including, but not limited to, historical buildings, covered bridges, cemeteries, and sites significant to the Township’s and national history). We see business development, real estate development, redevelopment and adaptive re-use occurring in a way that co-exists and is compatible with this Vision and the Township’s Mission, does not erode or otherwise degrade the Township’s rural character, and does not pose a risk to its natural or historical resources or residents. To that end, the potential positive and negative impacts of development must be assessed through a holistic lens using fact and multidisciplinary analyses- consistent with applicable ordinances, laws, rules and regulations and the Township’s rural heritage and character.

EAST VINCENT TOWNSHIP VALUES

The East Vincent Township Board of Supervisors and all Township employees, boards, commissions and committees seek excellence in accomplishing every facet of the Township’s Mission and Vision.  In pursuit of excellence, we value most of all:

Integrity

We will adhere to the highest moral and ethical standards and principles as we conduct our work; we will be consistent in our deeds, methods, and expectations; we will adhere to and follow all required processes and procedures; and we will ensure that the Township’s ordinances and regulations are applied to and followed by all persons and entities equally and that all are held to the same standard.

Respect

We will treat everyone with respect. Our words and actions words will demonstrate consideration and appreciation of others. We also respect the natural world, inclusive of private properties, and will act to maintain an appearance that aligns with the Township’s rural character and historical heritage.

Responsiveness

We will act or, as the case may be, respond as quickly as the pertinent circumstances reasonably permit and at all times thoughtfully and respectfully.

Transparency

Governance works best when it is open and transparent and voices are heard. Thus, we will inform our community about operations, programs, and services that we provide through various means; ensure that the Township’s website is user-friendly; report timely on various initiatives; timely post or provide information for public consideration and review; and welcome and encourage input from, and dialogue with, our residents. We will welcome residents and citizen groups to serve as spotlights to shed light where and when it is needed, give us constructive criticism, and hold us accountable for our actions and omissions.

Stewardship

We will prioritize the common good. We value and are stewards of our natural and historical resources and our rural, agricultural and historical character and heritage. We will be diligent in protecting, preserving and enhancing them for the benefit of current residents and future generations.

Volunteership and Partnership

A community thrives when its members volunteer and work collaboratively for the common good. Thus, we will encourage and welcome our residents to serve on the Township’s boards, commissions and committees, and otherwise to volunteer their time and experience to make East Vincent Township an even better place to live, work and play. We consider our residents to be partners in governance, and together we will establish transparent, long-term relationships based on mutual respect, trust, shared goals, clarity and open communication- all for the purpose of improving East Vincent Township.
