Potassium Iodine (KI) Distribution

Potassium Iodine (KI) Distribution

As part of Chester County’s continuing emergency preparedness effort, we continue to make available free potassium iodine tablets (KI) to Chester County residents who live, work, and/or attend schools within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant.

Potassium Iodine, or KI, can help protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine when taken as directed during radiological emergencies.  Individuals should only take KI when told to do so by state health officials or by the governor.  Adults and children will receive a two-day supply of KI.  Directions detailing when and how to take the tablets, as well as instructions for proper storage, will be provided with the KI tablets.  Individuals can pick up KI tablets for other families or those who are unable to pick them up on their own.

Residents and Businesses

Chester County Residents and Businesses within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant, can receive a supply of KI tablets, by completing and submitting the online KI form. You will be contacted when your KI request is filled and ready for pick-up.  Anyone can pick up KI tablets for neighbors or family members, but a separate request form must be filled out with their information.

For more information about the KI program at the Chester County Health Department, call 610-344-6225.
